PE and Sport Funding

The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum, for academic years 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015, to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school headteachers.

The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

At Knowsley Junior School, we are using our funding to improve PE and sport provision throughout Key Stage 2. We are employing specialist PE teachers, who are also qualified coaches, to work alongside teachers in lessons to enhance the teaching and learning of PE.

Our coaches also deliver high-quality after-school sports clubs, which provides them with the opportunity to identify gifted and talented children. They are then able to offer  these children additional coaching.

As part of the Saddleworth Sports Cluster we aim to ease transition between Springhead Infant School and Knowsley. We have joined together to participate in Multiskills tournaments held at Saddleworth School.
